Chili Cheese Dog Sliders Recipe

Like a chili cheese dog without the chaos! These baked sliders are the MVP of game day grub and are perfect for your tailgate parties. They are bursting with cheesy goodness, hearty chili sauce, and bite-sized bliss.

Ingredients

  • 12- count Hawaiian rolls
  • 3 slices cheddar cheese
  • 12 cocktail sausages or 6 hot dogs cut in half
  • 1 package New York Style Chili Dog Sauce Mix
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • Toppings white onion, scallions, ketchup, and mustard

Instructions

  • To Make the Chili Sauce
    • In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown 1 Lb. ground meat, breaking into small pieces. Add contents of Chili Dog Sauce Mix, then stir well. Add 1 1/2 cups water. Stir. Then cover. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes or until all flavors are well blended.

  • While the Chili Sauce is simmering, Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Place rolls in a 9 x 13 baking dish.
  • Cut a slit into the top of each roll.
  • Cut each slice of cheddar into quarters and place one piece of cheddar into each roll.
  • Place one sausage or hotdog into each roll. Top each with a spoonful of chili.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt your butter. Stir the garlic salt and onion powder into the butter.
  • Brush the melted butter mixture onto the rolls.
  • Top with shredded cheddar.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melty.
  • Top with your favorite toppings like our Dutch Kettle Amish Home style Vidalia Onion Relish or Fisher's Horseradish Mustard with Honey.

Notes

  • Try different cheese varieties. Pepper jack adds a nice kick, or use American cheese for a classic hot dog flavor.
  • Mix up the toppings. Try diced tomatoes, pickle relish, or crispy bacon bits.
  • Don’t overfill the rolls with chili, or they will get soggy.
  • Let them rest for 2-3 minutes after baking, allowing the cheese to set slightly.
  • If you’re planning to make these ahead of time for a party, it’s best to prepare all the ingredients separately and assemble them just before baking. This way, you’ll get that perfect fresh-from-the-oven taste.
